God’s Grace in my Life
The beginning of my spiritual journey was in December 1990, when I trusted God to really save me and gave my life to Him. I grew up in a Christian home, and my parents were faithful about teaching me from God’s word and sharing the gospel with me while I was still young. We were back from France on a furlough in Phoenix, and while I had asked Jesus to come into my heart several times when I was 7 and 8, I was still unsure if I was really saved. Drive-by shootings on the freeway helped motivate me to find out for sure where my soul was going to spend eternity.
One evening, I explained my fear and multiple-conversion problem to my mother. She took my Bible and showed me 1 John 1:9 “If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just, and will forgive us all our sins and purify us from all unrighteousness.” That is a promise that God makes to us, and I needed to trust God that He does keep his word. That night, I confessed once again my sin toward God, including my sin of not trusting in Him. I asked him to take my life, to give me a clean heart through Jesus Christ, and to now live for Him.

I knew from the time I was 12 or 13 that I wanted to devote my life to missions. During several summer camps, the director impressed upon our hearts the urgency of reaching out to the lost. Staring into the campfire, he reminded us of the horror of hell, and the need for people to know Christ. I was very open to serving overseas, since I realized that my ties to any one country were much looser and open for the Lord’s leading.
My journey with the Lord hasn’t had drastic changes or events, though the fact that I am one of His is amazing, and proves His love and grace. It has been more of a steady and slow walk, with ups and downs, joys and doubts, but a moving forward, knowing that God will finish the work he has started, and wanting to give my all to live to serve Him. I still have a lot to learn, but am encouraged at his faithfulness in the Bible, in other people’s lives, and in my own life.
